I normally don’t like pop music, but ABBA is far better than that label.

One reason this song was not nearly as big of a hit as it should have been in the US (where in early 1982 it barely cracked the Top 40) was the fact that by the time this song came out at the end of 1981-beginning of ’82, New York Radio was undergoing a major transformation with longtime kingpin WABC (77 AM) softening it’s format considerably in a last ditch effort to remain a music station (it would become a talk station on May 10, 1982, long considered “The Day The Music Died” at WABC) while WNBC (66 AM) had a program director that Howard Stern referred to as “Kenny” in his 1995 autobiographical film “Private Parts” and up to that PD’s death as “Pig Virus” because he hated him that much. That left New York with no true Top 40 station at the time this case out, something that would continue to be the case for another year and a half (at that time, WYNY-FM at 97.1 was the closest to a Top 40 station and that station was really adult contemporary). That doomed this and a lot of other songs of 1981-’83 that should have been much bigger hits because of when they happened to come out.

BEnny & Bjorn are the modern day Mozart and Beethoven. Frida & Agnetha are the vehicles that brought home the guys’ killer songs to us…and with tremendous impact!
